EMS Training for Senior Citizens

EMS Training for Senior Citizens

EMS training allows participants to experience the maximum health benefits of a full-body workout without the high impact or joint stress that most exercises demand. This makes EMS training the perfect workout for older people, especially those aged 60, 70, or above.

By training with electro muscle stimulation, you can enjoy a stronger, healthier body. The EMS also helps lower blood pressure and allows participants to maintain a steady heartbeat throughout the workout. This means it's possible to benefit from EMS training even if you suffer from a minor heart condition – although you should always consult your doctor before starting a new exercise regime.

Adaptability

Working with a Body Pulse EMS trainer means your workout can be tailored to your unique needs and goals. Each exercise is specifically designed to go easy on the joints, and every movement can be performed to your capabilities. This way, you get the maximum results regardless of any limiting conditions.

The electrical pulse helps participants exceed any limiting thresholds, enabling the exercise to offer sufficient intensity to build and maintain muscle strength, even if your movements are limited. Although our workouts are completed standing to promote good posture and help strengthen the stabilising muscles, in theory, you could complete an EMS training session even while sitting in a chair!

Muscle activation

By activating all the large muscle groups at once, EMS training can stimulate and improve your metabolism, promote healthy fat loss, and reduce the risk of heart disease.

The electro-stimulation also activates deeper lying muscle tissue than standard workouts, a proven effective treatment for reducing back pain.
What's more, every step of the way, you'll have a trained fitness professional by your side. Their job is to supervise your training and ensure you're reaching your fitness goals in a safe yet productive manner. Your personal EMS trainer will:

  • Plan your sessions
  • Adapt exercises to your specific needs
  • Guide you through the workout
  • Help ensure your form is correct
  • Provide hands-on assistance (if needed)
  • Boost your motivation
  • Talk you through your progress and results

The personal touch of Body Pulse Studio EMS training enables you and your personal trainer to develop a fun and engaging workout that offers all the health benefits you would gain after hours of conventional weightlifting… All in a 20-minute exercise session!

Falls

Falling is the principal cause of serious injuries in senior citizens. While it might seem simple, many older persons lack the strength and balance to fall "correctly", and a short trip or stumble could result in severe problems.

Without regular exercise, older individuals are susceptible to a range of health problems as the muscles weaken over time. In fact, if the body determines that the muscles, joints, and bones aren't needed (because they're not engaged in physical activity), then they start to waste away. This comes hand-in-hand with a decrease in bone density, brittle muscle tissue and can even result in sarcopenia (when combined with an increase in body fat percentage).

Not only is this uncomfortable and challenging for a person, but it also makes the risks associated with falling over much more serious… And makes a fall much more likely.

Multiple studies have found that many of the limiting conditions associated with old age can be minimised with regular exercise. However, due to limited movements caused by weakening muscles, many exercises can feel "too much" for senior citizens, and they may not be able to reach the thresholds required in strength training to experience any benefits. At its worst, weight training can cause further harm if it's too much for weakened joints to handle.

EMS training provides a pain-free alternative with fast, effective results. It's easy to fit into your calendar, and your trainer can work with you to help build your strength and balance to reduce the risks of falling associated with older age.

The Science

Don't just take our word for it that EMS training is a fantastic way to reap the benefits of regular exercise in older age… Studies involving men aged 65-75 show that regular EMS training can effectively counteract age-typical sarcopenia. A reduction of body fat in participants was also documented.

Increasing muscle strength isn't just vital for reducing the risk of falling, but it also dramatically improves the quality of life for older individuals. By building a stronger, healthier body, seniors can remain active and independent far later in their life than those who don't partake in regular exercise.

We've also found that there is no upper age limit to who can benefit from EMS training. Here at Body Pulse Studio, we have some clients aged over 90 who still book regular sessions.

Because the intensity of the electric impulses and the EMS training exercises are fully customisable, our sessions can be tailor-made to your unique needs, goals, and limitations. Therefore, it's the perfect workout whether you're 9 or 99, regardless of your starting fitness level.
